The best way to promote your business on LinkedIn is to post from your own personal profile, a few times a week, about real work you've done: customer stories, lessons, mistakes, and what you're seeing in your industry. Then make your profile clear about what your business does and how to reach you. People trust people before they trust a logo, so your posts build the trust and your profile tells them what to do next.
I've posted on LinkedIn nearly every day for about six years. It has helped every part of my business, from getting me on podcasts to getting me in Fortune. Here's how I'd do it if I were starting today.
Mylance is a LinkedIn content system that turns what you know and do into LinkedIn posts that sound like you.
Should I promote my business from my personal profile or a company page?
Your personal profile, by a mile. A company page is fine to have, but people follow people. When a post comes from you, it reads like someone sharing what they learned. When it comes from a logo, it reads like an ad. If you have a team, the same goes for them: a few people posting from their own profiles will do more than the company page ever will. I go deeper on this in LinkedIn company page vs personal profile.
Why does posting work better than pitching?
Because it works the same way referrals do. Ask any business owner why referrals close so easily and the answer is always trust. If I worked for you, you'd hire me again in a second because you already know what I'm capable of. There's no risk of making a mistake.
The problem is referrals run dry. A big network can carry you two, three, four, maybe five years, but at some point it stops being repeatable. Posting is how you mimic that trust at scale. People who have never met you get to watch how you think and what you've done, week after week, until hiring you feels like a safe call.
Compare that to a cold message that basically says hey, I'm Bradley, I promise I'm legit, you should buy from me. After a month of real content, people who reach out to you, or who you reach out to, already know who you are. In my experience the reply rate is something like 50 times higher.
What should a business post about on LinkedIn?
Lived experience. What we keep seeing resonate most is a real story about working with a customer, something you learned, or a mistake you made, especially when it has a number in it. Your wins, your learnings, your mistakes, what you're seeing work and not work in your industry. That's the stuff nobody else can write, and it's the stuff AI can't fake. What doesn't work is posting about your product every day. Promote the thinking behind the business, not the business itself. If you only share personal life updates, you build familiarity, which isn't a bad thing, but you don't build credibility for what you actually want to be hired for.
How do I turn LinkedIn posts into business without selling?
Let your profile do the selling. The number I watch most isn't likes or impressions, it's profile views. At one point I had about 3,100 profile views over 90 days. My posts weren't asking anyone to buy. They made people curious enough to click over and see what I do.
Your profile is basically a landing page for who you are. Someone reads a post, thinks oh, I'm interested in that, checks out your profile, and sees what you do. Then it's on your profile to give them an easy next step: a Calendly link, a free resource, your newsletter, or your homepage. If they have to send you a message just to figure out how to work with you, you're losing people. Here's how I set mine up in the LinkedIn Featured section.
And you don't need to drive people to your website first. There are around 100 million people checking LinkedIn every day. Meet them where they already are.
How often should a business post on LinkedIn?
Three times a week is a good place to start, and consistency matters more than the exact number. The trust builds up over months, not in one viral post. If you're unsure where to land, read how often to post on LinkedIn.
Can I promote my business on LinkedIn for free?
Yes. Everything above is free. Ads can work for some businesses, but for a business that people choose because they trust the owner, organic posts from real people usually do more. In a world where AI can make any message look custom and automated, the one thing it can't help you with is trust.
FAQ
What is the best way to promote a small business on LinkedIn?
Post from your personal profile a few times a week about real customer stories and lessons, and make your profile clearly say what you do and how to reach you.
Should my business have a LinkedIn company page?
It's worth having one so people can find you, but don't count on it for reach. The people behind the business should do most of the posting.
What metric should I track?
Profile views. They tell you whether your posts are making the right people curious. More on that in how to get more LinkedIn profile views.
What is Mylance?
Mylance is a LinkedIn content system that turns your real expertise into posts that sound like you. You bring customer stories, call notes, and rough ideas. It helps you shape and schedule them, learns from every edit you make, and you stay in control of what goes out.
Bottom line
To promote your business on LinkedIn, promote the person, not the logo. Share real stories from your work a few times a week, keep your profile clear about what you do, and let trust build until reaching out to you feels like the obvious next step.
